In theory we could eliminate the error message by including libcanberra in the PHENIX installer, but this is really overkill, and the installer is already massive and complex. I actually have it installed on an Ubuntu system at work and PHENIX still gives me the error message, because the module is installed as part of the system's copy of GTK, not PHENIX's.

Somehow GTK is being told to load the module anyway, and it can't find it in the expected modules directory (again, in PHENIX).

We package PHENIX with a full installation of GTK (to ensure that it runs on as many systems as possible), but it does not include the canberra module, and the module isn't even present on the system we use to build the binary installer for 32-bit Linux. Longer answer: I think the problem is actually a conflicting GTK configuration somewhere on the host system. Ubuntu is often recommended as an operating system on which to run Bitcoin Core.Although Bitcoin Core can be installed as a precompiled binary, this method won’t work in every situation. Ubuntu is Debian-based, and uses a different package management system.
